1 Corinthians 10:13 Meaning No Temptation Has Taken You Except What

No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

What does 1 Corinthians 10:13 mean?

The pull toward the thing that would ruin you is not some private curse marking you as uniquely corrupt. Every person who ever lived felt the same downward tug, and the shame whispering that you alone are this weak is itself a lie.

The pull toward the thing that would ruin you is not some private curse marking you as uniquely corrupt. Every person who ever lived felt the same downward tug, and the shame whispering that you alone are this weak is itself a lie. Naming the temptation as ordinary strips it of half its power.

And the burden is fitted to the back that carries it. Nothing lands on you heavier than you were built to bear. A door always waits somewhere in the room, a narrow way out that opens only to the one who keeps looking for it. You are stronger than the moment insists. The exit exists, but you have to walk toward it.

Live 1 Corinthians 10:13 today

  1. Name the thing pulling at you today in plain words, out loud or on paper, and add that millions of people feel exactly this. Secrecy is where it gets most of its strength.
  2. Tell one person the real version instead of the tidy one. "I have been struggling with this" said to one safe friend does more than a week of willpower.
  3. In the moment it hits hardest, the open app, the fridge at 11pm, the message you want to send angry, look for the exit instead of the strength. Stand up, walk to another room, put the phone on the counter. The door is usually physical and small.

What have I been carrying alone because I thought I was the only one who felt it?
