1 Corinthians 10:24 Meaning Let No One Seek His Own

Let no one seek his own, but each one his neighbor’s good.

What does 1 Corinthians 10:24 mean?

A person cannot seek their own good and their neighbor's at the same time, so the aim decides the day. Seeking aimed at one's own good runs as a permanent audit of what a person is owed.

Self-Help

A person cannot seek their own good and their neighbor's at the same time, so the aim decides the day.

Seeking aimed at one's own good runs as a permanent audit of what a person is owed. The audit sets a state of scarcity, scarcity produces resentment, resentment acts small and calls it fairness, and the ledger never closes because there is always another entry.

Redirected onto whoever is standing nearby, the same drive produces work instead of accounting, and work is the only evidence of worth that ever holds. People arguing over what they had every right to do find the question moved rather than settled, since a freedom now gets measured by what it does for the man next to it. Dropping the audit costs a person every grievance they were planning to collect on.

Live 1 Corinthians 10:24 today

  1. Pick the grievance you have been keeping warm, the credit you did not get, the text they never answered, and drop it today without telling anyone you dropped it.
  2. In your next meeting or group chat, make one person's point stronger instead of your own. You will feel how much energy the accounting was using.
  3. When someone takes the parking spot, the last seat, the thing you were clearly owed, let it go and get on with your day. The ledger never closes, so the only way out is to stop writing in it.

What are you owed that you would be lighter for never collecting?

Shantideva trains the mind to exchange self and other, holding another's good with the urgency normally reserved for one's own. The mind doing that has nothing left to tally.
