MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The Rock that followed the wanderers through the desert is imagination, the one steady thing a person carries everywhere. Wherever a man goes, this power goes with him, feeding him from within. The story says the same drink was given to all, because every human being draws from the identical source. No one stands nearer than another.

The Rock follows rather than leads because imagination takes its shape from what a person holds inside, then meets him further on as his life. What was assumed here arrives there as event. To call the Rock Christ is to say the creating power and the human imagination are one and the same. A man is quenched, always, by the very faculty he thought was only daydreaming.

  1. On your commute, instead of scrolling, spend the ride living in a scene you want as if it already happened. That short inner drink is what meets you later.
  2. When someone tells you they have no luck, no gift, no chance, remind them gently that the same power runs in them as in anyone they admire. Nobody got a better share.
  3. In a stressful stretch, pay attention to what you keep replaying in your head, because that is what is traveling with you. Swap the replay for the ending you actually want.

What have I been quietly drinking from all day, and is it feeding me?

The same truth in other traditions

The source is like a stream that never runs out, and it is already everywhere you go. Nobody has to carry it to you.

Zen

Draw water, carry wood. The well travels with you; the ordinary day is where you drink.

Upanishads

The self is one and the same in all beings, like a single fire taking the shape of whatever it burns in. No one is nearer to it than anyone else.
