What does 1 Corinthians 10:9 mean?

To tempt the highest thing is to demand that reality prove itself on your terms, and the wilderness answers such demands with poison. The serpents are the shape the consequence takes. They crawl up out of the ground when a person, worn down by the hard road, decides to test the very order carrying him rather than trust it. Contempt for what sustains you invites the chaos you were being spared.

The desert generation had been fed and led, and still they pushed, provoking the thing that held them. A man does the same whenever he treats the good as something to be dared instead of served. Do not dare it. Stop poking the structure that keeps the snakes at bay, and it goes on keeping them there.

Live 1 Corinthians 10:9 today

  1. Stop testing one good thing today just to see if it holds, the friend you keep poking, the job you keep half sabotaging, the routine you keep breaking to prove it does not matter. Leave it alone and let it work.
  2. When someone who has shown up for you reliably asks something small, do it without making them earn it again. Loyalty tested too often stops showing up.
  3. On the hard stretch today, the long traffic, the week with no end, the thing that is simply not fun, resist the urge to blow something up for relief. Tired is not a signal that the road is wrong.

What good thing in my life have I been daring instead of looking after?
