1 Corinthians 11:8 Meaning For Man Is Not From Woman

For man is not from woman, but woman from man;

What does 1 Corinthians 11:8 mean?

Man and woman here are the 2 poles inside one person, the active mind and the receptive feeling nature, and the ordering runs one way: the feeling side is drawn out of the mental side, not the mind out of the emotions. The reasoning power comes first in the inner sequence, and from it the responsive, nurturing pole is derived, the way the rib is taken from the sleeping figure in the old garden account.

Inside a single being the thinking principle is the ground and the feeling principle grows from it. The receptive nature is shaped by the active one, both housed in the one body.

Live 1 Corinthians 11:8 today

  1. When a mood lands on you today, trace it back one step to the thought you were holding just before it. Not to argue with the mood, just to see where it came out of.
  2. Before you respond to a message that stung, name the story you told yourself about why they sent it, and see if the hurt loosens when the story does.
  3. In traffic or a long line, when the irritation rises, change the sentence in your head first and let the body follow at its own pace instead of trying to force calm directly.

What was I thinking right before I started feeling this?

Tao Te Ching 42

The one gives rise to the two, and each thing that follows comes out of what came before it. The order is not an insult to the later thing, it is how the later thing arrives.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

The feeling that arrives in you is shaped by the judgment you made first. Change what the mind holds and the feeling that grows from it changes with it.

Buddhism · Dhammapada 1

All states are led by mind, made by mind. What you feel today follows the thinking that came before it the way a cart follows the animal pulling it.
