1 Corinthians 14:33 Meaning For God Is Not a God

for God is not a God of confusion, but of peace, as in all the assemblies of the saints.

What does 1 Corinthians 14:33 mean?

Confusion is the noise of the thinking mind, one anxious thought pulling at the next until you lose all sense of where you are. It is never the deeper source of life speaking through you.

Ego v. Being

Confusion is the noise of the thinking mind, one anxious thought pulling at the next until you lose all sense of where you are. It is never the deeper source of life speaking through you. That source is silent, and its nature is peace.

When you step out of the stream of thought and become present in this moment, the confusion has nothing left to feed on. It settles. What remains is not something you built but the stillness that was always beneath the noise, and that stillness is what people have always felt as sacred.

  1. When your head is loud and ten things are pulling at you, put the phone face down and sit still for two minutes without solving anything. Let the noise settle instead of answering it.
  2. If someone comes to you talking fast and tangled, do not add your own rush to theirs. Slow your voice, ask one question, and let the quiet in you be the thing they borrow.
  3. In the middle of a tense meeting or a thread going sideways, feel your feet on the floor and take one breath before you speak. The panic is in the thinking, not in the room.

What in your day is actually urgent, and what is just your mind running?

Tao Te Ching 16

Return to the root and you find stillness. The one who rests in that quiet sees clearly, while the one who stirs the water keeps living in his own mud.

Zen · Shunryu Suzuki

Your mind is like a glass of muddy water. You do not clear it by stirring harder. You set it down, and the silt settles on its own.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

Nowhere can a person find a calmer retreat than inside himself. Step in there for a moment and the clamor loses its hold.
