1 Corinthians 15:54 Meaning But When This Perishable Body Will Have

But when this perishable body will have become imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then what is written will happen: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”

What does 1 Corinthians 15:54 mean?

The body that ages and fails is a form the moment wears for a while. Within a person lives an awareness that was never born and cannot decay, and when someone touches it, the fear of ending loosens its grip.

Ego v. Being

The body that ages and fails is a form the moment wears for a while. Within a person lives an awareness that was never born and cannot decay, and when someone touches it, the fear of ending loosens its grip. The passing shape has not vanished. It has been clothed in what does not pass.

One day this changeover will be complete, and death will be swallowed the way a small wave is taken back into the sea. Nothing is destroyed in that moment. What seemed like the end turns out to be the return of a life that was never yours to lose, only yours to remember.

Live 1 Corinthians 15:54 today

  1. Sit with your own mortality for three quiet minutes without reaching for the phone to escape it. See whether something in you stays steady while you look.
  2. Call or sit with someone who is aging or afraid, and do not rush to cheer them up. Being unhurried beside them says more than any reassurance.
  3. Next time a health scare or a hard piece of news tightens your chest, feel the fear fully, then ask what in you is still here underneath it. Answer from that place.

What would change in how you live today if you were not quietly afraid of ending?

Life and death are day and night to the one who has stopped taking sides. He grieves no more at dusk than he celebrates at dawn.
