1 Corinthians 5:7 Meaning Purge Out the Old Yeast

Purge out the old yeast, that you may be a new lump, even as you are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, has been sacrificed in our place.

What does 1 Corinthians 5:7 mean?

Leaven is the small ferment of ego, the agent that makes the whole nature rise and puff itself into a false size. Clearing it out returns the substance to its plain, flat state, the unleavened mind that has stopped inflating around its own importance.

Leaven is the small ferment of ego, the agent that makes the whole nature rise and puff itself into a false size. Clearing it out returns the substance to its plain, flat state, the unleavened mind that has stopped inflating around its own importance. That flat state is what a person already is beneath the swelling.

The anointed awareness within, the Christ, is itself the passover sacrifice: the higher consciousness offered up so it may pass over the lower nature and out of bondage, the old exodus told again inside the body. What is given is the higher self, and that giving is what carries a person across.

Leaven: the swelling ferment of ego that puffs the whole nature into a false size Passover: the crossing of consciousness out of the flesh's bondage, the exodus enacted within the body

Self-Help

Cleaning out what contradicts you works only when you already know what you are.

Most attempts at change run backward. A person performs the behaviour hoping it will eventually add up to a self, and it never does, because the old self-definition is still giving orders and quietly reinstalls whatever got thrown out.

Christ sacrificed in their place settled the status before anyone swept anything out, so the clearing is behaviour catching up with a name that is already true rather than an argument for one. Run it the other way and every purge is temporary, because a person cleaning in order to become something has to keep finding more to clean.

Live 1 Corinthians 5:7 today

  1. Delete one post or message you were about to send that exists mainly to show people how well you are doing. Watch how it feels to not be seen for a moment.
  2. In your next conversation, let someone else have the last good point without adding the line that puts you back on top. Ordinary size feels strange at first and then it feels like rest.
  3. When you are criticized in a meeting, say thank you and sit with it before defending yourself. Letting the puffed-up version die a little is exactly what carries you across.

What would today feel like if I did not need to be impressive in it?

Tao Te Ching 22

The one who does not puff himself up has room to grow, and the one filled with his own importance has no space left. What refuses to display itself is what endures.

Buddhism

The self you defend so carefully is an invention that keeps swelling as long as you feed it. Set the burden down and what remains is lighter and truer.

The path asks for the dissolving of the self-important self, not its decoration. What is given up turns out to be the fare for the crossing.
