1 Corinthians 7:22 · World English Bible
For he who was called in the Lord being a bondservant is the Lord’s free man. Likewise he who was called being free is Christ’s bondservant.
Your outer position, whether you are bound or free in the eyes of the world, has nothing to do with the freedom that matters. A person in chains who has awakened is inwardly free, because no circumstance can touch the still awareness at their core.

The same verse, read by one tradition.

EGO & BEING
Your outer position, whether you are bound or free in the eyes of the world, has nothing to do with the freedom that matters. A person in chains who has awakened is inwardly free, because no circumstance can touch the still awareness at their core.
And the one the world calls free, once awake, gladly gives their life over to serve something greater than the small self. These two meet in the same place. Real freedom is not the absence of duty or hardship. It is no longer being ruled from inside by the demands of the ego, so that whatever your situation, you are inwardly at peace within it.
Ego v. Being lens
Which of your chains are outside you, and which ones are you holding from the inside?
He spoke as a former slave and called himself free, because no one could force his mind. Chains bind the body, never the one watching from inside.
Do the work in front of you without being owned by what it gets you. That is how a person acts and stays free at the same time.
The useless tree is left standing. Being nobody important in the world's eyes can be the freest position there is.
