1 John 3:14 Meaning We Know That We Have Passed Out

We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. He who doesn’t love his brother remains in death.

What does 1 John 3:14 mean?

To love your brother is to recognize yourself in him. This is not mere sentiment but a shift in consciousness, the falling away of the illusion that you are a separate self surrounded by others who are not you.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

To love your brother is to recognize yourself in him. This is not mere sentiment but a shift in consciousness, the falling away of the illusion that you are a separate self surrounded by others who are not you.

The ego lives in separation, and that separation is itself a kind of death, a life cut off from the living whole. When love awakens, the boundary dissolves and you sense the one presence shining through every being. This is how you pass from death into life. You stop experiencing others as separate from you, and the isolation of the ego, which is the real death, quietly comes to an end.

AWARENESS

Indian Guru

The measure of being alive is whether love flows; nothing else certifies it. Beliefs can be perfect, the scriptures memorized, the conduct spotless, and the person still be a corpse walking, because the ego is a wall built to keep others out and it keeps life out with them.

Love is the one experience in which that boundary thins and one is no longer only oneself. Where it is missing there is existence without warmth, breathing arranged around a center that must defend itself constantly. The passage from death into life is not something that waits until after dying; it happens the moment the wall is let down and someone is allowed in.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

Checking your feelings for proof that you are alive settles nothing; the direction your life moves does.

Remaining in death takes no event and no decision. It is the default a person drifts into whenever nothing is moving outward from them: attention circles the self, emotion flattens, flat emotion kills the impulse to reach, and the loop feeds on itself.

Love moving toward actual people is the one signal that cannot be counterfeited from the inside. A person can feel warm toward humanity for a week and move nothing, while the brothers in question are specific, inconvenient, and nearby, which is what makes reaching them a real test. Refuse it and nothing collapses; the years pass with nothing lost and nothing built, and that stretch of nothing is what death looks like from inside a living body.

  1. Walking down the street or sitting on the train, pick out a few strangers and let it land that each one has a whole life as real and detailed as yours.
  2. Do one small thing for someone with nothing coming back and no one knowing. Carry the bag, send the text, let the car in.
  3. In a conflict, find the one thing you genuinely understand about why they feel the way they do. You do not have to agree. Just stop treating them as a different species.

Where in my life am I living as if I am separate, and what is it costing me?

That other person is also that. What you are looking at is the same life you are living, wearing a different face.

Goodwill is not a feeling you force but a wall you stop maintaining. Extend it to one person, then another, until the line between inside and outside gets thin.

Heaven and earth were born together with me, and all things and I are one body. The sense of being a separate piece is the illusion.
