1 John 4:2 Meaning By This You Know the Spirit

By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit who confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God,

What does 1 John 4:2 mean?

The test of true awareness is whether it honors the descent of the anointing into the body. Jesus is the awakened self and Christ is the oil of consciousness poured through it, and to confess this power come in the flesh is to know that the divine is not far off but seated in the very meat and blood of a person.

The test of true awareness is whether it honors the descent of the anointing into the body. Jesus is the awakened self and Christ is the oil of consciousness poured through it, and to confess this power come in the flesh is to know that the divine is not far off but seated in the very meat and blood of a person. A spirit that denies the flesh, that seeks the light only above and refuses the body as its dwelling, is cut off from the God within. The mark of what is real is that it recognizes the anointing has entered the human house and works there.

What is of God, in a person, is the awareness that treats the flesh not as an enemy but as the place where the anointing lives.

Live 1 John 4:2 today

  1. Do one ordinary physical thing today with full attention, washing a dish, walking to the car, stretching your back. Treat your body as the place this happens, not the thing in the way.
  2. Touch base with someone in a plain physical way, a real hug, a hand on a shoulder, sitting close instead of texting. Presence travels through bodies.
  3. When you are stressed and want to live only in your head, put your feet flat on the floor and feel them. Coming back to the body is coming back to where you actually are.

Am I treating my body as a problem or as a home?

The divine presence is not hiding in the heights. It is found in this world, in flesh and food and work, wherever a person brings their whole self.
