A faith nobody has tested is worth exactly what a person hopes it is worth, and no more.
Heat sorts beliefs into load-bearing and decorative. A conviction that has held under fire produces a steadiness the untested version cannot, and that steadiness is what keeps a person acting on days when acting costs them something.
Priced as loss, fire makes someone quietly negotiate their faith down to something cheaper to carry. Priced as the assay that establishes what the metal is, the same fire yields proof headed for praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. A belief never put under heat costs nothing to hold and gives nothing back on the day everything depends on it.
