EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

A young man searching for lost animals is told that something is about to come upon him and he will be turned into another man. This is more than the mind rearranging its opinions. A deeper dimension of being, always present beneath the small self he took himself to be, is about to fill him.

When that stillness moves in, the old identity built from fear and wanting loosens its grip, and a truer life begins to speak through him. He becomes another man because presence now has room in him where anxious thought used to crowd it out. That is what the promise means: he does not improve his old self, he starts living from a depth that was there all along.

SELF-HELP

Self-Help

Skills change what a person can do; a new name for who they are changes what they do without effort.

The deepest force in a person is the need to stay consistent with how they define themselves, which is why the Spirit moves at the label rather than the technique. Change the name a man carries for himself and his state changes, that state releases emotion he had no access to, and the emotion drives action that repeats into a life. The prophesying follows because behaviour reorganises around who he now is.

Anyone chasing new behaviour while guarding the old self-definition forces the actions for a season, feels the identity pull them back, and calls that weakness when it was loyalty to a label. Drop the label and the effort spent forcing behaviour goes into living it.

Live 1 Samuel 10:6 today

  1. In the middle of an ordinary errand today, groceries, dishes, walking to the car, let yourself feel how alive you are inside the doing. The errand does not change, you do.
  2. Let someone see you as you actually are today instead of the version you usually perform. One honest sentence about how you really feel is enough.
  3. When anxious thought takes over this afternoon, put a hand on your chest and feel your own breathing for ten seconds. Something steadier than the worry is already there.

What in you is bigger than the person you take yourself to be?
