Running at the thing produces the courage; the body will not hand it over in advance. Forty days of holding a line teaches an army what it is.

SELF-HELP
Running at the thing produces the courage; the body will not hand it over in advance.
Forty days of holding a line teaches an army what it is. Standing still in front of a threat trains the body into the shape of fear, the shape feeds the feeling, the feeling gets read as evidence, and trained soldiers reach the honest conclusion that nothing can be done.
One man broke that by moving before the fear could finish its argument. A charge is a physiology, and physiology sets emotion faster than reasoning ever does, which is why the stone left the sling from a body already certain God had settled the outcome. Waiting to feel ready keeps a person at the edge of the valley for life, well armed and never in the fight.

What am I standing still in front of, waiting to feel ready for?
The journey of a thousand miles begins under your feet. Nothing in you reports for duty until the first step is taken.
Practice and awakening are not two things, so sitting is not preparation for the real thing, it is the real thing. Readiness is found inside the act.
Stop discussing what a good man is and be one. The body moving first is what settles the argument the mind would happily continue all day.
