1 Samuel 18:25 · World English Bible

1 Samuel 18:25 Meaning Saul Said

Saul said, “Tell David, ‘The king desires no dowry except one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies.’ ” Now Saul thought he would make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

What does 1 Samuel 18:25 mean?

The price set on the rising self is the cutting away of desire. Foreskins stand for the outer craving that wraps the inner essence, and the hundred of them is the full removal of that grasping before the true self can be joined to what it longs for.

The price set on the rising self is the cutting away of desire. Foreskins stand for the outer craving that wraps the inner essence, and the hundred of them is the full removal of that grasping before the true self can be joined to what it longs for. What the ego on its throne intends as a trap becomes the very work that frees a person, for the strange intruding thoughts it sends to destroy the awakening mind are exactly what that mind was meant to overcome.

The higher nature does not fall by facing them. It grows by stripping the outer want away and finding the essence underneath, so the scheme meant to end the rising life is the doorway into it.

Philistines: the strange, intruding thoughts that press in from outside the settled mind Foreskins: the outer covering of desire that wraps and hides the inner essence David: the rising higher nature within a person, moving up against the lower mind Saul: the ego seated on the throne, ruling the old life and guarding it

Live 1 Samuel 18:25 today

  1. Before you buy the thing sitting in your cart, close the tab and wait a day. Watch the wanting rise and fall on its own, without you doing anything about it.
  2. Spend time today with someone you want something from, approval, a yes, a compliment, and go in wanting nothing. Just be with them and see what shows up.
  3. When a setback lands at work, before you complain, ask one honest question: what does this actually make me learn. Then do that thing rather than the complaining.

What problem were you handed recently that might turn out to be the training?

The thing standing in the way becomes the way. What was sent to stop you is the exact material your growth is made of.

The grasping is the problem, not the world. Loosen the wanting and the thing you were chasing is suddenly near.

The soul is polished by what rubs against it. Every friction you resent is doing work on you that comfort could never do.
