Ego v. Being

When you offer peace to another, you are not merely wishing them good fortune. Real peace does not depend on prosperity, on the house or the possessions that fill a life, for those forms come and go. It rises from a deeper place, the still awareness present beneath every circumstance.

When you are truly present, that stillness radiates outward. It touches the people near you, the space you live in, everything you hold. Peace to your house and to all that you have means simply this: when you are at peace within, the world you move through grows peaceful too, because you are no longer at war with the present moment.

Live 1 Samuel 25:6 today

  1. Before you walk into your home tonight, sit in the car or stand outside the door for thirty seconds and let the day's tension drop. You bring in whatever you are carrying.
  2. When a conversation starts to heat up, slow your own voice down instead of matching theirs. Calm is contagious the same way tension is.
  3. In a crowded, irritable place, a packed train, a slow checkout line, a loud dinner, decide to be the one patch of quiet in it. Nothing has to change outside for that to be true.

What does the room feel like when you walk into it, and who are you to thank for that?

Tao Te Ching 15

Muddy water left alone becomes clear. A person who grows still does the same, and everything near them clears too.

Zen

How do you keep peace in a crowded house? Be the one who is not adding noise.

Sufism · Rumi

Silence is a language that reaches people. When your own storm dies down, others can breathe in the room with you.
