1 Samuel 28:7 Meaning Then Saul Said to His Servants

Then Saul said to his servants, “Seek for me a woman who has a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and inquire of her.” His servants said to him, “Behold, there is a woman who has a familiar spirit at Endor.”

What does 1 Samuel 28:7 mean?

Certainty is the need a person will break their own law to feed when the silence goes on long enough. A personality starved of answers will take them from anywhere, and the longer God stays silent the lower the standard drops.

Certainty is the need a person will break their own law to feed when the silence goes on long enough.

A personality starved of answers will take them from anywhere, and the longer God stays silent the lower the standard drops. The forbidden vehicle gets selected precisely because it is the last one still promising to deliver, so urgency writes the decision that conviction used to write.

The chain moves fast. Believe that no step can be taken without knowing the ending, and the state becomes dread; dread hands the controls to whoever offers an answer tonight; and the action taken under dread comes back carrying its own verdict. A man who buys certainty this way loses the ability to trust any answer afterward, including a true one.

  1. When you reach for your phone to check the thing for the fifth time, the test result, the read receipt, the bank balance, set it down and let the not knowing sit there for ten minutes. Nothing you refresh changes the answer.
  2. If you are about to ask a dozen people the same question until one of them tells you what you want to hear, stop at the first honest answer and sit with it, even if it is "I do not know."
  3. Under real pressure, when something in you wants to break a rule you actually believe in just to get this settled tonight, name the hour. "I want this resolved by bedtime." The urgency, not the problem, is what is writing the plan.

What have I been willing to do lately just to stop not knowing?

To know that you do not know is the beginning of health. Pretending to know is the sickness.

Buddhism · the Buddha's silence

Asked certain questions about the ultimate end of things, the Buddha simply did not answer, because a man demanding that answer before he will take a step will never take the step.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Some things are up to us and some are not, and peace begins at that line. Hunting for guarantees on the far side of it is how people wreck themselves.
