SELF-HELP
The detour you take for someone else is often the only route back to what you lost.
Loss rehearsed hardens into a state, and the state decides what a man is able to perceive. Focus stays on what was taken, the emotion runs to rage, the action narrows into a straight-line chase, and the chase compounds into arriving too late at the wrong place.
Bread and water spent on a stranger who can offer nothing back breaks that circuit, because attention going to another man's thirst is not available for circling one's own ruin. Whoever is out of that loop can take in what is standing in front of them. Men with nothing to spare for someone worse off keep every ounce of their sorrow and lose what they were chasing besides.
