1 Samuel 8:10 Meaning Samuel Told All Yahweh’s Words

Samuel told all Yahweh’s words to the people who asked him for a king.

What does 1 Samuel 8:10 mean?

The people asking for a king are asking for an outside power to lead them, a Saul, some savior or ruler set over them so they need not stand on their own imagination. Every such king enslaves, because the moment a person crowns something external as his cause he has chosen his own bondage.

MANIFESTATION

Manifestation

The people asking for a king are asking for an outside power to lead them, a Saul, some savior or ruler set over them so they need not stand on their own imagination. Every such king enslaves, because the moment a person crowns something external as his cause he has chosen his own bondage. Saul is exactly that: man's own choice of a leader other than himself, which the true God rejects.

The words of the LORD told plainly to such people are the warning that no outside king frees anyone. The one power that liberates is the imagination within, your own I AM, the God of scripture wearing your face. This drama unfolds inside a person, never as history or as some rescuer arriving from without. The self that looks for a king to save it has already handed away the only throne that mattered.

Live 1 Samuel 8:10 today

  1. Name the person or system you have been quietly waiting on to change your life, an employer, an algorithm, a verdict. Then spend ten minutes assuming the result as already yours and see who is actually in charge.
  2. When a friend asks you to decide something for them that only they can decide, hand it gently back. Help them find their own footing instead of taking the crown they are offering.
  3. Under pressure, when the urge is to find someone to save the situation, pause before you make the call. Set the outcome inside yourself first, then reach out from steadiness rather than from needing a rescuer.

Who have I been waiting on, while the throne sat empty in me?

Taoism · Zhuangzi

Zhuangzi refused a post at court, preferring to stay free rather than live as a decorated animal. The crown offered to him was a cage with better paint on it.

Buddhism

The Buddha's last word to his students was to be their own lamp, since no teacher can walk the road for anyone. Looking for a rescuer only postpones the walking.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Epictetus said the man who makes his happiness depend on another's decision has made himself a slave with his own hands. Whoever you crown over your life will rule it.
