For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving.

1 Timothy 4:4 · World English Bible
For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, if it is received with thanksgiving.
The way a person receives a thing decides what it becomes in them, long before the thing itself does. Food taken as a debt collected goes flat, while the same food received as a gift carries warmth, strength, a reason to get back to work.

SELF-HELP
The way a person receives a thing decides what it becomes in them, long before the thing itself does.
Food taken as a debt collected goes flat, while the same food received as a gift carries warmth, strength, a reason to get back to work. Thanksgiving does the work: it sets the meaning, the meaning sets the state a person eats in, and the state decides whether the hours after are spent guarding what is owed or spending what was given.
The teachers forbidding marriage and meat mistook refusal for holiness, when refusing what God made good is a verdict passed on the One who gave it. Nothing in creation needs improving; the emotional return moves entirely with how it is received. Trade the reflex of being owed for appreciation and a person stops waiting for better circumstances before they are allowed to feel alive.

What good thing am I currently receiving as a debt instead of a gift?
The tea is the tea either way. Whether the cup is a chore or a gift happens entirely in the one holding it.
It is not the thing that moves us but our judgment of it, and gratitude is a judgment available in nearly every situation.
The sages had a blessing for bread, for water, for the first fruit of the season, so that no ordinary good would pass through a person's hands unrecognized.
