2 Chronicles 31:21 Meaning In Every Work That He Began

In every work that he began in the service of God’s house, in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.

What does 2 Chronicles 31:21 mean?

What a person gives to a thing with their whole heart is the only part of it that ever compounds. Holding part of yourself back is a decision made before the work starts, and it sets the ceiling on everything after.

Self-Help

What a person gives to a thing with their whole heart is the only part of it that ever compounds.

Holding part of yourself back is a decision made before the work starts, and it sets the ceiling on everything after. A man who keeps ten percent in reserve believes the thing may not be worth all of him; that belief lowers his state, a lowered state makes hedged action feel reasonable, and hedged action returns the modest proof that keeps the belief alive.

Seeking God with all the heart cuts off retreat, and a person with nowhere to fall back reaches capacity a hedging person never touches. Prospering is what whole capacity does while it runs, not a payment posted afterward. Whatever a person half-does will keep paying them half, and they will spend years blaming the work instead of the reserve they kept.

Live 2 Chronicles 31:21 today

  1. Pick one thing you have been doing at eighty percent for months and give it a single hour at full attention, phone in another room. See what that hour actually produces.
  2. In your next real conversation, put the phone face down and do not plan your reply while the other person is talking. Being all the way there is most of what they wanted.
  3. When a task feels beneath you or probably pointless, do it properly anyway, start to finish. The habit of half doing things does not stay in the small jobs.

Where are you keeping a little of yourself in reserve, and what is the reserve actually protecting?

Zen

When you sweep, sweep. Half of you doing a thing while the other half stands back is not doing it at all.

Bhagavad Gita 3

Whole hearted action, offered without hedging on the outcome, is the kind that frees a person. Hedged action keeps you tied to the result.

Judaism · Pirkei Avot

Do not hold back from the work because you cannot see the end of it. The holding back is the part that stops you.
