2 Corinthians 11:2 Meaning For I Am Jealous Over You

For I am jealous over you with a godly jealousy. For I married you to one husband, that I might present you as a pure virgin to Christ.

What does 2 Corinthians 11:2 mean?

The soul is meant for a single union, and the pull toward it burns like jealousy. Within a person there is a betrothal of the inner nature to one spiritual center, and everything that would scatter that nature across many attachments works against the marriage.

The soul is meant for a single union, and the pull toward it burns like jealousy. Within a person there is a betrothal of the inner nature to one spiritual center, and everything that would scatter that nature across many attachments works against the marriage.

The chaste virgin is the soul kept pure and undivided, not yet spent on the many, held whole for the one. The single husband is the one spirit, the Christ-center, to which that soul is joined. The whole movement is toward keeping the inner self single and unspoiled so it can be brought, entire and undistracted, into union with the one spirit rather than parceled out among lesser loves.

  2. In one conversation today, stay with one subject all the way through instead of letting it skip across five. Whole attention is a form of loyalty.
  3. When three urgent things land at once, choose the real one and tell the others honestly when you will get to them. Doing all three badly is not devotion, it is just scatter.

What have I spread myself so thin across that nothing gets the whole of me?

Bhagavad Gita 12

A mind scattered across a hundred attachments has no force left for any of them. Gathered on one thing, it becomes steady.

Sufism · Rabia

She asked for a love so single that nothing else could fit beside it, not even fear of punishment or hope of reward. Anything else sharing the room divides the heart.

Hinduism · Patanjali

The mind is stilled by holding it to one object until the holding becomes effortless. One-pointedness is not narrowness, it is the only state in which the mind stops scattering its own light.
