2 Corinthians 5:6 Meaning Therefore We Are Always Confident and Know

Therefore we are always confident and know that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord;

What does 2 Corinthians 5:6 mean?

To be at home in the body is to have consciousness settled in the flesh as its dwelling, identified with the mortal frame and senses. Then awareness is turned outward, away from the divine center, and this is the absence spoken of: not distance in space but attention fixed on the earthly house instead of the presence within.

To be at home in the body is to have consciousness settled in the flesh as its dwelling, identified with the mortal frame and senses. Then awareness is turned outward, away from the divine center, and this is the absence spoken of: not distance in space but attention fixed on the earthly house instead of the presence within. While the self makes this temporary home the whole of where it lives, it stands apart from what it truly is.

The confidence is the quiet certainty that the self is more than its lodging. As long as awareness roots in the body it feels far from the Lord within, yet the knowing of this points back to the presence already waiting at its own center.

Live 2 Corinthians 5:6 today

  1. Twice today, in a line or waiting for coffee, ask quietly who is doing the looking behind your eyes. Do not answer, just ask.
  2. When a family dinner or a group chat pulls you into being only your role, hold onto the quiet sense that you are more than the part you play there.
  3. In a stressful hour, when everything is appetite and urgency, put one hand flat on the table and remember you are not the hurry you are standing in.

Where am I living as if this body and this day were all of me?
