2 Corinthians 8:11 Meaning But Now Complete the Doing Also

But now complete the doing also, that as there was the readiness to be willing, so there may be the completion also out of your ability.

What does 2 Corinthians 8:11 mean?

Every intention a person leaves unfinished teaches them their own word means nothing, and that lesson gets expensive fast. Willingness that never gets discharged trains the nervous system to treat a decision as a feeling, and once that training takes, the next resolve arrives already weakened, the one after that weaker still, until a person is generous entirely in theory.

Every intention a person leaves unfinished teaches them their own word means nothing, and that lesson gets expensive fast.

Completion measured out of what is in hand removes the final excuse, since the size of the gift was never weighed against anybody else's ability. Money pledged and not sent feeds nobody, and the pledger pays twice: poor saints stay poor, and anyone who has watched themselves break a promise to their own conscience negotiates downward the next time something costly is right.

Live 2 Corinthians 8:11 today

  1. Find one thing you said you would do and have not, and finish it today at whatever size you can actually manage. Small and done beats big and pending.
  2. When you tell someone you will do something, put a date on it before you hang up. A promise without a time is a wish.
  3. Today, when you feel the pull to say yes just to be agreeable, say what you can really do instead. Your word gets strong by being accurate, not generous.

What have I meant to do for so long that I have stopped believing myself about it?

The mark of a serious person is that their word and their act are the same thing. Speech that outruns action costs a person their own trust.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Do not tell people what you plan to be. Be it, and let them find out from your actions.

Beautiful words that nobody acts on are like painted flowers. No scent, no fruit.
