The ascent of Elijah is the lifting of an awakened consciousness out of the lower body into the higher regions of being while the man still lives. The chariot of fire is the vehicle of purified spiritual energy that carries awareness upward, and the horses of fire are the burning vital powers that draw it, the same inner heat raised to its finest pitch.

The whirlwind is the spiraling rush of that energy climbing the inner column, and heaven is the crown of consciousness at the top. In plain words, a person's refined inner fire can rise up through them and lift their awareness to its highest point without the body dying.

Chariot of fire: the vehicle of purified spiritual energy that carries awareness upward through a person Horses of fire: the burning vital powers that draw consciousness aloft, the inner heat at its finest pitch Whirlwind: the spiraling rush of energy climbing the inner column toward the crown Heaven: the highest region of consciousness, the crown reached at the top of the ascent

Live 2 Kings 2:11 today

  1. Sit for three minutes with no screen and let your attention travel slowly from the base of your spine to the top of your head, as if following warmth upward. Nothing dramatic has to happen.
  2. When a conversation starts to heat you up today, keep the heat and change its direction. Let it come out as full attention on the other person's face instead of as a sharper sentence.
  3. In traffic or a long line, when the restlessness builds in your chest, stop pushing it down. Straighten your back, breathe into it, and let it rise instead of leak.

What in me is burning that I have been trying to put out instead of lift?

The same truth in other traditions

Hinduism · Yoga tradition

The coiled energy at the base of the spine is said to rise through the body's central channel to the crown, and a person can know this while fully alive. The fire is already in you, it only climbs.

Taoism · inner alchemy

The old Taoist adepts spoke of refining the body's ordinary heat into a finer energy and lifting it along the spine, so a person becomes light without leaving the world.

Sufism · Rumi

Rumi says the one who burns becomes the light. The same heat that torments you when it is scattered carries you when it is gathered.
