2 Kings 8:19 Meaning However Yahweh Would Not Destroy Judah

However Yahweh would not destroy Judah, for David his servant’s sake, as he promised him to give to him a lamp for his children always.

What does 2 Kings 8:19 mean?

Judah is the region of praise and the seat of the inner spark that is never put out no matter how far a person falls. The promise of an unbroken light means one lamp stays lit inside the flesh through every failure of the outer life, kept alive for the sake of the beloved center that David names, the tuned and loving heart.

Judah is the region of praise and the seat of the inner spark that is never put out no matter how far a person falls. The promise of an unbroken light means one lamp stays lit inside the flesh through every failure of the outer life, kept alive for the sake of the beloved center that David names, the tuned and loving heart. The children are the thoughts and states that descend from that heart, and the light passes down to them as well.

So the meaning is a candle that cannot be blown out: the divine flame set within a person continues through every generation of the mind, because the loving center at the core holds it burning.

Judah: the region of praise in the body, holding the inner spark that is never extinguished David: the tuned and loving heart, the beloved center the light is kept for Light: the divine flame set within the flesh that stays lit through every failure Children: the thoughts and states born from the heart, receiving the same undying light

Live 2 Kings 8:19 today

  1. Think of the worst thing you did this year and then say honestly that you are still here and still able to love someone well today. Both are true at once.
  2. Tell a person who is down on themselves one specific good thing you have actually seen in them. People lose sight of their own lamp long before it goes out.
  3. When you blow it today, snap at your kid, miss a deadline, send the wrong thing, do the repair and then stop the hour of self punishment. The flame did not go out, so do not act like it did.

What do I believe I have permanently ruined in myself that is actually still lit?

Judaism · Hasidic teaching

The Hasidic masters spoke of a spark of the divine inside every person that no sin can put out, only bury. The work is uncovering, not creating.
