MANIFESTATION
God speaks here to the awakening man about the man himself. The whole human race, fused into one being and personified as the youth David, is the son God is describing, and every person is that son ripening toward the moment he wakes to find God as his own life. Father and son are not two figures across a distance but one identity in two stages, the sleeping self and the risen self, and the promise is that the sleeper will awaken.
The rod is not punishment sent from outside. It names the creative power at work, the pressure and labor by which the divine self is brought forth in a man, the way birth comes only through strain. The stripes are the ordinary suffering of a life spent in forgetfulness. A man passes through error and its consequences, and that very passage is how he matures. In plain words, the God who became you is raising you, through everything you undergo, into himself as your own fatherhood.
Manifestation lens
What if the parts of your life you are most ashamed of were the labor that grew you, and not the evidence against you?
The self in you and the ground of all being are not two things separated by distance. What looks like a long search for something far away ends in recognizing what was always sitting at the center of you.
From the start, all beings are already awake. The trouble is not that we lack it but that we look everywhere except at what we already are, and the looking itself slowly wears the illusion thin.
The hard grinding of a life is not a sentence passed on you. The grain has to be crushed before it can be bread, and the pressing is the making, not the punishment.
