That good thing which was committed to you, guard through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

EGO & BEING
There is something alive within you that was never made by thought. Call it presence, the still awareness that looks out through your eyes and knows you exist before any name or story arrives. This is the good thing entrusted to you, and the mind cannot manufacture it.
To keep it does not mean to grip it anxiously, for anxiety is only more thinking. You keep it by letting it keep you, by relaxing back into the aliveness that already dwells within. Guard it simply by staying present, and it guards you in return, so the more you rest as that indwelling awareness, the less the world's noise can pull you from yourself.

SUFISM
Amāna: A trust left in your keeping The word covers anything handed to you that still belongs to whoever gave it. That changes the feel of holding it: you did not build this, you cannot reshape it to suit yourself, and someone is waiting to receive it after you. People tend to be more careful with a borrowed car than their own, and the same sharpening happens here.
Nearer than the jugular vein: the help is already inside The Quran places God closer to a person than the vein in their own neck. Anyone told to protect something precious pictures a lone night watch, straining at the door while everyone else sleeps. Nearness like that takes the loneliness out of the job, since the one who gave the thing never left the room.
Murāqaba: Keeping watch over your own heart The practice is steady attention to what stirs inside you, held under God's gaze. Guarding something entrusted sounds like a matter of locks and outside threats, but most losses start quietly, in small slips of attention nobody catches. Watching the heart catches the drift early, while it is still a mood and not yet a decision.
Be mindful of God and He will keep you: the guarding runs both ways The Prophet said this to a young companion riding along behind him. Anyone handed a responsibility bigger than themselves starts calculating whether they are strong enough, and the honest answer is usually no. The promise shifts the weight: attention turned toward God is your part, and what you feared losing is kept for you.
Tawfīq: The help that makes right action possible The term names God's enabling of whatever good a person manages to do. Someone guarding something valuable can grip it so hard that the whole thing becomes a test of personal willpower, and willpower runs out. Seeing the strength as a gift lets a person work hard without the fear of running empty.
Ego v. Being lens
What in me is already here, before any of my thinking about myself begins?
There is a light in the heart smaller than small and larger than large, already yours, not made by anyone. To know it is simply to stop looking elsewhere.
Hold the one thing within and do not let it scatter. Soften yourself into it rather than gripping it, the way you would hold something alive.
You wander the world searching for what is already breathing inside you. The search itself is what keeps hiding it.
