2 Timothy 2:13 Meaning If We Are Faithless

If we are faithless, he remains faithful; for he can’t deny himself.

What does 2 Timothy 2:13 mean?

Even in the moments when you lose all faith, when the mind is certain that nothing sacred is real, the deeper truth of what you are does not waver. It remains faithful, present beneath your doubt, because it cannot become anything other than itself.

Ego v. Being

Even in the moments when you lose all faith, when the mind is certain that nothing sacred is real, the deeper truth of what you are does not waver. It remains faithful, present beneath your doubt, because it cannot become anything other than itself.

Your thoughts may deny it and your moods may hide it, yet the awareness in which all of this happens does not switch off when you stop believing in it. It cannot deny itself. Whether you remember it or forget it entirely, what you essentially are is always here, waiting quietly to be noticed again.

SUFISM

Sufism

Human loyalty flickers, catching and going cold like a fire fed with poor wood, and the honest heart knows how often its own flame drops. The disease here is despair, the quiet conclusion that a faith this shaky must finally be dropped.

The cure is to lean on the constancy that is not ours. He stays true when we cannot, not because He overlooks the failing but because staying true is simply what He is; to abandon us He would have to abandon Himself, which He cannot do. The wavering one is held, in the end, by a faithfulness with no off switch.

  1. On a day when none of this feels true and you cannot summon any faith, do not force it. Sit for two minutes anyway and let the awareness that is reading your doubt simply be there.
  2. When someone tells you they have stopped believing, do not reassure or debate. Stay warm, stay curious, and let them see that nothing in your regard for them depends on their certainty.
  3. In a stretch where you are failing at your own intentions, drop the verdict about yourself and come back to this hour. What you are has not left just because you lost the thread.

What is still here on the days I believe nothing at all?

The source does not come and go with our belief in it. It was there before us, quietly, whether or not anyone turns toward it.
