Acts 10:44 Meaning While Peter Was Still Speaking These Words

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell on all those who heard the word.

What does Acts 10:44 mean?

It happened while he was still speaking, before he had finished, before anyone had done anything to earn it. Those who truly heard did not merely take in ideas with their minds.

Ego v. Being

It happened while he was still speaking, before he had finished, before anyone had done anything to earn it. Those who truly heard did not merely take in ideas with their minds. Something in them opened, and a deeper aliveness moved in.

There is a listening that goes beyond grasping the meaning of the words. In it the thinking mind grows quiet, a space opens within you, and into that space presence can flow. It fell on them because they had stopped defending and analyzing and had become genuinely receptive. When you listen from that stillness rather than from the restless commentary of thought, what you receive is not information but a change in your very state of being.

  1. Listen to one song or one stretch of birdsong without doing anything else and without judging it. Just receive it, start to finish.
  2. In your next real conversation, drop the sentence you were preparing while they talked. Let their words land in you before you have a reply ready.
  3. When criticism comes at work, stay quiet for a beat instead of defending. You can respond after. The pause is where you actually hear it.

When was the last time something someone said truly reached you, and what made you open enough to let it?
