A question about method is proof that something just stopped being optional.

The instructions arrive after the standard is set, never before. A jailer could have asked that on any ordinary shift and did not, because the belief that his life was working kept salvation in the category of other people's concerns, and nothing in that category generates questions.

The shaking supplied no new information about God. It removed the option of continuing as he was, and the instant rescue became non-negotiable his mouth produced the sentence that had been unavailable to him for years. Most people wait for a night like that, which means their standards get set by emergencies instead of by decisions, and an emergency picks its own timing.

Live Acts 16:30 today

  1. Ask today, while nothing is on fire, the question you would ask in a crisis: what actually matters here, and what am I doing about it. Write the answer somewhere you will find it later.
  2. Ask someone who knows you what they would want you to change if they knew you had one year. Then listen without defending yourself.
  3. Next time something goes badly wrong, a diagnosis, a layoff, a message you dreaded, let it ask the real question instead of rushing to repair the surface. Then decide, rather than letting the panic decide.

What am I keeping optional that I already know is not?
