Acts 2:26 Meaning Therefore My Heart Was Glad

Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced. Moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope;

What does Acts 2:26 mean?

When you are connected to the aliveness within, a gladness arises that does not depend on anything happening. The heart rejoices not because the mind has gotten its way, but because you are in touch with the life that you are beneath all thought.

Ego v. Being

When you are connected to the aliveness within, a gladness arises that does not depend on anything happening. The heart rejoices not because the mind has gotten its way, but because you are in touch with the life that you are beneath all thought.

And this peace reaches even into the body. The flesh, so often tense with the fears of the anxious mind, is allowed to rest. When you are fully present, the body senses there is nothing here to defend against. It settles into ease, because the one who was always bracing for the future has grown still.

Live Acts 2:26 today

  1. Sometime today, feel your own hands. Really feel them, the warmth, the weight. The body is glad to be included, and it is the quickest way back from a racing head.
  2. At dinner or on a call, let yourself be plainly glad to be with the person in front of you, without needing a reason or an occasion. You do not have to say it out loud for them to feel it.
  3. In a stressful stretch, check whether your shoulders are up and your stomach is tight. Let them go. Nothing in this room is about to attack you.

Where is my body still braced for something that is not happening?

The same truth in other traditions

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

The peace you keep searching for outside is a few inches inward. Turn there, and you find it has been waiting the whole time, needing nothing from events.

Taoism · Zhuangzi

The free person moves through the world unhurried, body at ease, because they have stopped fighting the way things are.

Buddhism

When craving loosens its grip, ease spreads through the body itself. The breath settles, the jaw unclenches, and gladness arises from nothing happening at all.
