Acts 20:25 Meaning Now

Now, behold, I know that you all, among whom I went about preaching God’s Kingdom, will see my face no more.

What does Acts 20:25 mean?

Every form arrives and every form leaves, and a face is only a form, borrowed for a while and then handed back. A man about to vanish from their sight says as much plainly, and the sorrow of it is honest.

Ego v. Being

Every form arrives and every form leaves, and a face is only a form, borrowed for a while and then handed back. A man about to vanish from their sight says as much plainly, and the sorrow of it is honest.

Yet what he carried among them lived deeper than any face. He had shown them the kingdom, the awake stillness that is closer than a person and does not come or go. When someone points others toward that ground and then walks away, the pointing stays alive in them long after the hand is gone. The stillness lasts. The presence they were shown outlives the one who showed it.

  1. Think of someone who shaped how you see things and is no longer around. Instead of only missing them, name one thing you still carry from them and use it today.
  2. The next time you say goodbye to someone, a parent at the end of a visit, a coworker on their last day, let it be a real goodbye with your eyes up and your phone down, even if you will likely see them again.
  3. In a busy stretch where people are moving in and out of your day, give the person in front of you the thing that lasts: attention, honesty, a little kindness, rather than the version of you that is already in the next room.

What have you been given that is still working in you long after the giver left?

Buddhism

Everything that comes together comes apart. Seeing that clearly is not grief, it is what lets you love the thing while it is here.

Tao Te Ching

The useful part of the wheel is the empty hub. What holds people together is not the shape they can see but the space at the center of it.

Moses received the teaching and handed it on, and each one after him handed it on again. No link in the chain owns it, each one only passes it forward.
