Acts 24:25 Meaning As He Reasoned About Righteousness

As he reasoned about righteousness, self-control, and the judgment to come, Felix was terrified, and answered, “Go your way for this time, and when it is convenient for me, I will summon you.”

What does Acts 24:25 mean?

Every postponed decision is still a decision, and it always gets made in favor of the more comfortable hour. Conviction that never converts into action decays, and the body files what it learned from the decay: discomfort passes on its own.

Every postponed decision is still a decision, and it always gets made in favor of the more comfortable hour.

Conviction that never converts into action decays, and the body files what it learned from the decay: discomfort passes on its own. The terror was genuine, which means the reasoning about righteousness, self-control and the judgment ahead had landed exactly as it should. Then the levers settled it, because the pain of staying inside that conviction outweighed the pain of the life it had just indicted.

Convenience is the word a person reaches for when relief now has outbid change later. Each deferral trains the response: the next warning moves him less, the one after that barely registers, and in time he can sit through the same truth with a steady pulse. The expense is the capacity to be moved at all, spent one comfortable postponement at a time.

Live Acts 24:25 today

  1. Take the one small thing you have moved to tomorrow four days running and do it in the next ten minutes, badly if needed. The point is to break the habit of being talked out of it.
  2. Tell one person the thing you have been meaning to say, the apology or the thank you or the hard question. Send it today, in a plain message, before the moment cools off.
  3. When a hard truth lands on you at work or in a group chat and your first move is to close the tab, stay with it for sixty seconds instead. Let it be uncomfortable without rushing to make it go away.

What have you been waiting for a convenient season to do, and what would it cost to do it this week?

The teaching warns that the person who keeps putting off what should be done lets the chance slip while craving quietly chooses for them.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

He told himself to stop waiting for a better hour to become the person he had already decided to be, since the postponement is itself the choice.

Pirkei Avot 1

If not now, when? The question is pointed because a later that is never named never arrives.
