Acts 28:27 · World English Bible

Acts 28:27 Meaning For This People’s Heart Has Grown Callous

For this people’s heart has grown callous. Their ears are dull of hearing. Their eyes they have closed. Lest they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and would turn again, then I would heal them.’

What does Acts 28:27 mean?

The dullness spoken of here is not stupidity. It is the thick layer of thinking that stands between a person and the aliveness of this moment.

Ego v. Being

The dullness spoken of here is not stupidity. It is the thick layer of thinking that stands between a person and the aliveness of this moment. The eyes close not from blindness but from being lost in the endless commentary of the mind, which sees only its own concepts laid over the world.

Healing waits on the other side of that noise. When attention drops beneath thought, even for an instant, seeing returns and so does understanding, not as a new belief but as direct knowing. People stay unhealed because they mistake their thoughts about life for life, and so they never quite arrive where they already are.

Live Acts 28:27 today

  1. For two minutes today, look at something ordinary, a tree, a mug, your own hand, without naming it or judging it. Just let it be seen. Seeing without commentary is strangely alive.
  2. In your next conversation, listen all the way to the end without composing your reply while they talk. Most of us have never been heard like that.
  3. When the group chat or the news has you certain and furious, pause before posting and ask whether you are responding to a person or to the story in your head. Often the certainty goes quiet first.

How much of what you are sure about today have you actually looked at?

The way that can be put into words is not the way itself. Our concepts point at life and then get mistaken for it.

The finger pointing at the moon is not the moon. People spend whole lives studying the finger.

Truth is veiled by the very net of names and ideas we cast over it. Lift the net and nothing new appears, only what was always shining.
