Acts 6:4 Meaning But We Will Continue Steadfastly in Prayer

But we will continue steadfastly in prayer and in the ministry of the word.

What does Acts 6:4 mean?

To give yourself continually to prayer is not to spend all day muttering requests. It is to stay rooted in inner stillness while your hands do their work, returning to presence again and again through the ordinary hours.

Ego v. Being

To give yourself continually to prayer is not to spend all day muttering requests. It is to stay rooted in inner stillness while your hands do their work, returning to presence again and again through the ordinary hours.

The self is always pulled outward by a thousand demands, each one insisting it is urgent. These few knew that if they lost their inner ground, their words would become empty noise. So they made stillness their first commitment and let their speaking flow out of it. When you stay anchored in the quiet depth within, whatever you then do and say carries something that busyness alone can never give it.

Live Acts 6:4 today

  1. Before you open your laptop or unlock your phone in the morning, take three slow breaths with your hand flat on the table. That is the whole thing.
  2. When you sit down with someone for coffee or dinner, put your phone face down out of reach and let the first minute be quiet before anyone performs an update.
  3. In a day that is all back to back, use the walk between things, the elevator, the wait for the kettle, as a return rather than a gap to fill with scrolling.

How much of what you said today came from a settled place, and how much came from the rush?

Zen

Chop wood, carry water. The stillness is not somewhere else; it is in the chopping.

Sufism · Dhikr

Remembrance is a thread you keep hold of through the day's noise, not a room you enter and leave.

Tao Te Ching

Muddy water clears when it is left alone. Act from the settled depth, not the stirred surface.
