Acts 7:32 Meaning I Am the God of Your Fathers

‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.’ Moses trembled, and dared not look.

What does Acts 7:32 mean?

There is a name beneath all names, and it is simply I am. Not I am this or I am that, but the pure I am that underlies all existence, the awareness in which every form appears.

Ego v. Being

There is a name beneath all names, and it is simply I am. Not I am this or I am that, but the pure I am that underlies all existence, the awareness in which every form appears.

When Moses drew near that presence, he trembled and dared not look. The small self cannot stand before the immensity of Being; it feels itself dissolving. This trembling is what happens when the person you take yourself to be meets the vast aliveness that you truly are. He could not look because in the nearness of pure presence, the separate self he clung to was falling away.

  1. Sit still for two minutes without a phone, a podcast, or a plan, and let the simple fact that you exist be the only thing happening.
  2. When you introduce yourself today, hear how quickly you reach for your job, your city, your status. Say the sentence, then quietly know you are not that.
  3. When fear or awe hits, bad news, a hospital waiting room, a sky that stops you, do not rush to explain it away. Let it be bigger than your commentary for a minute.

Who are you when you take away everything you would say about yourself?

Before any name or role, there is simply being, and that being is what you are. Everything else is a description laid over it.

The source cannot be named. Every name we give it is a finger, never the thing itself.
