EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

While the crowd closes in, one man is so filled with presence that he looks steadily upward and sees. The rage below cannot reach the place he is looking from. When you are wholly inhabited by the aware, still dimension within, the surface storm loses its power to define you, and another reality opens.

He sees the glory and the standing figure not because he has escaped his situation but because he is fully in a deeper one. Being filled with spirit means the small anxious self has grown quiet enough for the vast to become visible. In the worst moment of his life, presence let him see what fear would have hidden entirely.

SUFISM

Sufism

Surrounded by a crowd ready to kill him, a man could be forgiven for staring only at the stones in their hands. Fear pulls the gaze downward and fills it with threat until nothing else fits in the eye.

But a heart already full of God has room for nothing smaller, and so he looked up and saw the glory that was there the whole time. The cure for a mind crowded with danger is to lift it toward the One who is present even in the danger. The face he saw standing for him was closer than the mob pressing in.

  2. If someone raises their voice at you today, let there be one full breath before your reply, and answer the person rather than the tone.
  3. In the hardest hour of your week, ask what is actually here right now rather than what might happen next. Fear hides what presence can see.

What might you see today if you looked from somewhere calmer than the panic?

The still witness in you is untouched by the battle around it. Act in the storm, stand somewhere the storm cannot reach.

You have power over your mind, not over events. Retreat there and the noise outside loses its authority.

Between the first arrow of what happens and the second arrow of your reaction, there is space. Stay in that space and you can see clearly.
