Acts 7:59 · World English Bible
They stoned Stephen as he called out, saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit!”
As the stones fall, the man does not clutch at his life but opens his hands and gives his spirit into keeping. There is no struggle here, no last grasping of the self that is being taken.
From the Ego v. Being reading below.
The same verse, read by one tradition.

EGO & BEING
As the stones fall, the man does not clutch at his life but opens his hands and gives his spirit into keeping. There is no struggle here, no last grasping of the self that is being taken. He has already found the ground beneath his form, the awareness that was never the body they are breaking.
To say receive my spirit in such a moment is to let go completely of identification with what is passing. He can surrender because he knows himself as more than the life ending around him. This is why he meets death without terror: he has located the part of himself that death does not touch, and he lets the rest return to its source.
Ego v. Being lens
What part of you has never once been threatened by anything you have lost?
The one who dwells in the body is not born and does not die. What ends was always the garment, never the wearer.
You do not own your life, you have it on loan. Give it back without complaint when it is asked for.
Life and death are one turning, like day into night. The one who sees this is not frightened by the turn.
