Psychoanalysis

A person can read holy words and never let them land. The eyes cross the page, the mouth forms the sounds, but the meaning stays outside, like a stranger at the door. We treat old symbols as facts to collect, when they are asking to become part of us.

The question put to him matters most. He was reading, but reading is not the same as understanding. Understanding comes only when the old image meets your life and something inside recognizes it. That is why he needed a companion to carry the words from the page into the man.

Live Acts 8:30 today

  1. Read one short thing today slowly enough that it can ask you something back. One paragraph that lands is worth more than twenty you skimmed.
  2. Ask someone what a book, a song, a line they love actually did to them. Not whether it was good. What it changed.
  3. When you catch yourself nodding along to something you do not really follow, in a meeting, in a thread, say you do not follow and ask. Admitting you are lost is the first honest step toward understanding.

What have you read many times without ever letting it reach you?
