Amos 5:8 · World English Bible

Amos 5:8 Meaning Seek Him Who Made the Pleiades

seek him who made the Pleiades and Orion, and turns the shadow of death into the morning, and makes the day dark with night; who calls for the waters of the sea, and pours them out on the surface of the earth, Yahweh is his name,

What does Amos 5:8 mean?

The power to seek is the same power that binds and frees the light within the body. The 7 stars are the 7 energy centers strung up the spine, and Orion is the light of consciousness held fast inside the bull-mind of the ego, the bands that wait to be loosed.

The power to seek is the same power that binds and frees the light within the body. The 7 stars are the 7 energy centers strung up the spine, and Orion is the light of consciousness held fast inside the bull-mind of the ego, the bands that wait to be loosed. That same force turns the shadow of death into morning, which is the passage from the sleep of ordinary awareness into waking, and darkens the day again as awareness sinks back down. It draws the waters of the sea, the lower emotions and passions, and pours them across the mind.

What religion reads as a maker of far-off stars is the one power moving through a person's own centers. It binds the light in the ego and it releases it, and the rising to morning is a real waking inside the head.

7 stars: the 7 energy centers running up the spine, the chakras strung along the inner column Orion: the light of consciousness bound within the bull-mind of the ego, the bands awaiting release Waters of the sea: the lower emotions and passions, drawn up and poured out across the mind

Live Amos 5:8 today

  1. When you wake tomorrow, stay still for one minute before the phone. Feel the difference between the fog you woke in and the clearer attention that arrives a minute later, because that shift from dark to morning is happening inside you, not in the room.
  2. In your next real conversation, sit upright and keep your attention at the top of your head while you listen. You will hear the other person differently when the light is up high instead of sunk into your reactions.
  3. When something at work grabs you, an email, a meeting that turns tense, feel where the heat sits in your body and let it rise instead of spill. The same force that floods your thinking can lift it, depending on which way you send it.

When the light in me dims back into the ordinary day, what is it that usually pulls it down?

The same truth in other traditions

Hindu yoga tradition · Kundalini

The spine is described as a ladder of centers, with the energy sleeping coiled at the base. Practice is simply the work of loosening what holds it down so it can climb and light the whole column.

Zen

Teachers speak of the great waking as a sudden turn from night to day inside you, and they warn that the day can dim again. The sitting continues after the first light precisely because the dark returns.

Taoism · Inner alchemy

The Taoist adepts worked with the same water: the heavy, churning emotions are not thrown out but drawn upward and refined, the dense made fine. What floods the mind when left low becomes clear vapor when raised.
