PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

To become a new person is not a single act but a slow renewal that keeps going. The old self, built out of habit and fear, is set aside piece by piece, and something truer takes its place. This does not come from copying others. It grows through knowing oneself more honestly.

The pattern being restored is the original image a person was made from, the deepest design of who they are. The work is not to invent a self from nothing but to grow back toward that hidden blueprint. A person becomes new by uncovering, little by little, the shape that was theirs from the beginning.

CYBERNETICS

Cybernetics

The self a person wears gets remade as his knowledge of himself is corrected. Bad information built the old portrait, cramped and dim. New knowledge redraws it, and the redrawing follows one pattern: the image its Creator held when He made him.

The mechanism inside always aims at a picture. Given a clearer account of what a person is, it steers there. The likeness he was built for becomes his target. He grows into it.

SUFISM

Sufism

A dulled mirror, once wiped, gets no new face painted on it; it only lets the face already before it appear. It is a tiring illusion to think a person builds a self from nothing, forgetting the likeness he was made to carry. One honest confession, one grudge set down, and a little of the old dust lifts.

This is a slow renewing, not a finished trophy. The clearer the heart grows, the more plainly it knows the One whose image it was meant to reflect.

Live Colossians 3:10 today

  1. Pick one small habit you keep doing without wanting to, maybe reaching for your phone the second you wake, and just watch yourself do it today without scolding yourself. Seeing it clearly is the whole job for now.
  2. Ask one person who knows you well what you are like when you are at your best. Listen without correcting them, even if it feels generous or wrong.
  3. When something goes sideways at work and you feel the old reaction climbing up, your voice sharpening or your jaw setting, pause for one breath before you answer. That one breath is where the newer self gets a turn.

What part of you were you before you learned to protect yourself?

Tao Te Ching 28

The teaching is to return to the uncarved block, the simple state you began in, rather than add layer after layer of polish. Growth here means stripping away, not building up.

Zen

A familiar Zen line says the work is not to become a buddha but to let go of what you are not. Your original face was there before any of your habits formed.

Sufism · Rumi

Rumi wrote that your task is not to seek love but to find and clear the barriers you built against it. The treasure is already inside the house you keep searching outside of.
