Daniel 1:12 Meaning Test Your Servants

Test your servants, I beg you, ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat, and water to drink.

What does Daniel 1:12 mean?

Decide first and the clever plan arrives second; people still waiting for the plan are still deciding. A mind that has already settled what it will not do produces options that stayed invisible while the question was open.

Decide first and the clever plan arrives second; people still waiting for the plan are still deciding.

A mind that has already settled what it will not do produces options that stayed invisible while the question was open. The ten day trial came from a young man who had stopped asking whether to comply, and that sequence is the whole difference between a workable plan and a wish.

The conviction that God's honor outranked the king's table set the state, the state produced composure in front of men who could have ended him, and that composure made the request sound reasonable instead of defiant. Go looking for the method before fixing the standard and the standard quietly lowers itself to whatever the method allows.

Live Daniel 1:12 today

  1. Pick the one thing you are not going to do today, before the day starts asking. Write it in your notes app in a single line, something like "no scrolling until the kids are at school," and let the how work itself out later.
  2. When someone asks you to do something that crosses a line you already hold, say the line out loud and then offer an alternative in the same breath. "I can't send that number, but I can get you the real one by Thursday." Calm voice, no speech.
  3. In the meeting where the pressure builds to just go along, resist opening the question again in your head. You already settled this one. Ask for the next step instead of relitigating the first one.

What have I been calling "waiting for a plan" when really I have not decided?
