EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

There is a light that lives within you, and it is not the flicker of thought. It is awareness itself, the knowing presence that is always here, witnessing. When you bring this presence to what has been hidden in you, the buried fears and pain that live in the darkness, they no longer control you unseen.

Nothing in you is too deep or secret for awareness to reach. The light dwells with you because it is you, the consciousness in which every hidden thing becomes visible. And what you can finally see clearly, you are no longer ruled by.

ESOTERIC

Esoteric

The revealing power is the awakened intelligence within a person that uncovers what the ordinary mind cannot reach, the deep things folded inside the body and its states. The darkness is not evil here but the unlit interior, the hidden ground where the roots of thought and feeling lie unseen, and this inner knower sees straight into it. The light that dwells with him is the consciousness at the very center, never separated from its source.

Every person carries this: a lamp in the depths that lights the hidden interior and stays one with the light it gives. What seemed locked in the dark of the self is fully known to the light already living inside, so nothing is finally hidden from the awareness at one's own core.

PSYCHOANALYSIS

Psychoanalysis

The mind holds far more than the small lit circle we call our waking thoughts. Beneath it lies a vast dark region where memories, fears, and knowledge we did not know we had are stored. Most people treat this darkness as empty or dangerous. It is neither.

The surprising thing is that light lives inside that darkness. Understanding does not only come from thinking harder in the daylight of the mind. It rises up from the deep, in dreams and sudden insights, carrying things we could never have reasoned our way to. What seems hidden is simply waiting for us to turn and receive it.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY

Clinical Psychology

The order at the root of things sees into the very darkness a man is most afraid to enter. Nothing stays hidden from it, not the buried motive, not the secret rot, not the thing you have refused to look at in yourself. What lives concealed in the shadow is fully known already, which means the darkness is not the final word about anything.

Light belongs with the highest good, and that changes how a person should face his own hidden places. Bring the buried thing forward. What terrifies you in the dark loses its grip the moment it is exposed to what already understands it completely. To live in the light is to stop pretending the shadow contains something that cannot be faced and redeemed.

SUFISM

Sufism

Spoken by a young man just spared his life, this praises the One who reads what is hidden. The fault it exposes is the buried sin, the pride or fear a person tucks away and assumes no eye can reach. The cure is to stop hiding from the only witness who already sees, and bring the buried thing up into repentance before it rots.

What looks like darkness is not dark to its Maker. The light does not travel to the secret place; it already dwells there, so nothing is far enough down to be alone.

Live Daniel 2:22 today

  1. When a bad feeling shows up today, anxiety before a call, a flash of shame, sit with it for thirty seconds instead of reaching for your phone. Looked at directly, it tends to get smaller.
  2. Tell someone you trust the thing you have been keeping quiet about. What is said out loud stops running the show from underneath.
  3. When you snap at someone or feel dread in a meeting, ask quietly what is actually going on in you. Seeing it is most of being free of it.

What have I been keeping in the dark, and what would change if I simply looked at it?

Zen

Turn the lamp around and look back at the one holding it. The light you have been using to see everything is itself the thing worth seeing.

Buddhism

Bring steady attention to a difficult feeling and it begins to loosen. What is met clearly cannot run you from the shadows.

Upanishads

There is a light inside the heart smaller than small and vaster than vast. By it everything else is known.
