Daniel 2:44 · World English Bible

Daniel 2:44 Meaning In the Days of Those Kings

In the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed, nor will its sovereignty be left to another people; but it will break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it will stand forever.

What does Daniel 2:44 mean?

God sets this kingdom up while those kings still hold their thrones, not after history has run out. The title God of heaven places Him over those empires rather than among them, so the raising is His own act.

God sets this kingdom up while those kings still hold their thrones, not after history has run out. The title God of heaven places Him over those empires rather than among them, so the raising is His own act.

Every other crown in that world changed hands, by conquest or by heir, and this one passes to no successor and reaches no end. Careful readers differ over which kings these are and when the kingdom arrives, and the promise holds either way. The empires do not simply fade; God shatters them, and their fall is His judgment.

The hardest thing breaks and the soft water outlasts it, so what looks unshakable is the thing on its way out. Permanence does not belong to the strong.

Stoicism · Marcus Aurelius

He ran an empire while writing that courts, titles and conquests are dust and a brief smoke. The man at the top of the thing saw through it.
