SELF-HELP
A commitment that depends on being rescued is a negotiation, and the other side always finds out.
Attaching a decision to a guaranteed outcome hands the outcome control of the person. Strip the guarantee away and a threat has nothing to grip: no rescue can be bargained for, no punishment can reverse the choice, because it was never priced in those terms.
Refusing to make obedience conditional on being saved reorders what hurts. The furnace becomes survivable and bowing becomes unbearable, and once pain and pleasure sit in that order, the state follows, the voice steadies, and standing still costs no willpower. Their confidence that God is able to deliver stays intact and simply stops being the reason. What they gave up was the last exit available to them, and nothing the king said afterward could reach them.

She prayed to be given nothing if she served God for reward or out of fear of punishment. She wanted to serve for no reason she could be bargained out of.
He called a person free only when their choices rest on nothing anyone else controls. Tie your choice to an outcome and you have handed someone the leash.
