Daniel 4:25 · World English Bible

Daniel 4:25 Meaning That You Shall Be Driven From Men

that you shall be driven from men, and your dwelling shall be with the animals of the field. You shall be made to eat grass as oxen, and shall be wet with the dew of the sky, and seven times shall pass over you; until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men, and gives it to whomever he will.

What does Daniel 4:25 mean?

The proud self that believes it rules its life will one day be stripped of everything it uses to know itself, its titles, its control, its story of being someone. Cast out from all that, it is returned to the bare simplicity of a creature in a field, breathing, feeling the dew, being.

EGO & BEING

Ego v. Being

The proud self that believes it rules its life will one day be stripped of everything it uses to know itself, its titles, its control, its story of being someone. Cast out from all that, it is returned to the bare simplicity of a creature in a field, breathing, feeling the dew, being.

This humbling is not punishment. It continues until you finally see that you were never the one running things. A deeper intelligence moves your life, decides what rises and falls, and hands the world to whom it will. When the mind-made self collapses, what remains is the clear knowing that this greater power, not you, was governing all along.

Live Daniel 4:25 today

  1. Sometime today, put the phone face down and sit still for five minutes with no plan for the time. Let your breathing happen without managing it, and feel how much of you keeps going without your instruction.
  2. In one conversation, let go of steering it. Do not guide the person toward your point or wait for your turn, just listen and let the talk go where it goes.
  3. When something slips out of your hands today, a delayed flight, a decision made without you, a plan someone else changed, try saying inwardly, this was never mine to run. Then do the next small thing in front of you.

What in my life keeps going beautifully without my hand on it?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching

The sage does not claim authorship of what moves through him. Things grow and ripen on their own, and the one who stops insisting he is the doer finally works with the current instead of against it.

Bhagavad Gita

The one who believes "I am the doer" is confused about what is actually happening. Action moves through a person the way weather moves through a valley, and peace arrives when he stops signing his name to it.

Stoicism · Epictetus

Some things are yours and most things are not. Health, position, reputation, the course of events: all on loan, and clarity begins the day you quit calling the loan your property.
