Daniel 5:20 Meaning But When His Heart Was Lifted Up
But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.

Daniel 5:20 · World English Bible
But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened so that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and they took his glory from him.
When the heart lifts itself up and the mind hardens in pride, the ego has taken the glory of a role or a position and declared it to be itself. But that kind of glory is only borrowed form.

EGO & BEING
When the heart lifts itself up and the mind hardens in pride, the ego has taken the glory of a role or a position and declared it to be itself. But that kind of glory is only borrowed form. It was never truly yours, and the moment you grip it as me and mine, you build your identity on something that cannot last.
So the throne is lost and the glory stripped away. This is not punishment from above. It is what happens when a person mistakes a passing form for who they are: whatever the ego clings to for its identity will change, and the self built upon it falls with it.

SUFISM
Here is pride watched all the way to its end. A heart lifts itself, then hardens, then treats others as beneath it, and the throne it thought it owned is pulled away. The glory was never his to keep; he only forgot it was on loan, and the forgetting was the fall.
The cure is to remember the source before loss must teach it: to hold every height as a gift, and to soften while the spirit still can. For the glory that was taken had one true owner. What lit that crown was never the king, but the Real, shining through a man who mistook the light for his own.

Clinging is the root of the ache. We take hold of what is already leaving and call the pain of its leaving unfair.
You are an actor given a part. Play it well, but remember the costume is not your skin and the play will end whatever you prefer.
Fill a cup past the brim and it spills. Hold a blade too sharp and it dulls. Having done your work, step back from it, because standing too long in your own glory is how you lose it.
