Daniel 5:22 · World English Bible
You, his son, Belshazzar, have not humbled your heart, though you knew all this,
You can know a truth completely and still not be changed by it in the slightest. The mind is able to collect spiritual understanding the way it collects everything else, holding it as information while the ego that runs your life remains entirely untouched.
From the Ego v. Being reading below.
The same verse, read by 2 traditions.

EGO & BEING
You can know a truth completely and still not be changed by it in the slightest. The mind is able to collect spiritual understanding the way it collects everything else, holding it as information while the ego that runs your life remains entirely untouched.
This is the great trap for those who are clever. You saw what pride did to others, you understood the lesson perfectly, and yet you did not humble your own heart, because knowing was never the thing that transforms. Only the actual letting go of the ego changes you, and no amount of understanding can substitute for that surrender.

SUFISM
The charge is not ignorance but a heart that refused to bow while knowing better. Watching his father's fall taught him everything and changed nothing, and that is pride at its hardest: knowledge worn as an ornament, not taken as a warning. The cure is the one he skipped, lowering the heart before it is lowered for him.
God is present as the lesson standing in the room the whole time. A polished mirror shows the truth, but a heart lacquered over with self-regard reflects nothing, so the light it was offered simply passed by.
Ego v. Being lens
What do I understand perfectly and still refuse to actually do?
A finger pointing at the moon is not the moon. Many spend a lifetime studying the finger and go home having never looked up.
The one who recites the teachings but does not live them is a herdsman counting another man's cattle. The words are in his mouth and the wealth is not his.
You cannot learn to swim from a book on water. The knowledge lives in the body or it does not live at all.
