Daniel 6:22 Meaning My God Has Sent His Angel

My God has sent his angel, and has shut the lions’ mouths, and they have not hurt me; because as before him innocence was found in me; and also before you, O king, I have done no harm.

What does Daniel 6:22 mean?

A man is thrown among the beasts and is not torn apart, and the beasts are a fair picture of the raw, devouring forces that live in every one of us. He is not spared because he has crushed those powers but because he stands whole and undivided, at peace with himself and with the truth.

A man is thrown among the beasts and is not torn apart, and the beasts are a fair picture of the raw, devouring forces that live in every one of us. He is not spared because he has crushed those powers but because he stands whole and undivided, at peace with himself and with the truth.

When a person has nothing hidden and nothing at war inside him, the wildness that would ordinarily consume him has no hold to seize. What shuts the lions' mouths is that inner unity, an honesty so complete that even his own depths do him no harm.

Live Daniel 6:22 today

  1. Pick the one thing you have been quietly not admitting to yourself, the email you are avoiding or the habit you pretend is fine, and say it plainly in your head. Just name it, with no plan attached yet.
  2. With one person today, drop the small performance. If someone asks how you are and the honest answer is "pretty rough," say that instead of the automatic "good, you?"
  3. When something hot hits you, a message in the group chat or someone cutting you off in traffic, check whether the heat is really about them or about something you are hiding from. Breathe once before you answer.

What would change today if you had nothing left to hide?

The same truth in other traditions

Tao Te Ching 50

The one who is whole inside walks among weapons and wild animals and finds no place in himself for them to grip. Danger needs a handle, and he has left none.

Bhagavad Gita

The person settled in their own center is not shaken by the pull of desire or fear. The forces still move, but they move around someone who is no longer divided against himself.

Stoicism · Epictetus

What harms us is not the beast outside but our own inner confusion meeting it. A mind at peace with the truth gives trouble nothing to feed on.
